Our digital platform, Under the Sisterhood, vlog, and podcast were launched a little over six months ago to highlight and celebrate the achievements and “superpowers” of women around the world, strengthening well-being through sisterhood in all of its forms (non-partisan, age-agnostic), and ultimately inspiring change around the globe. Founder Elizabeth Elfenbein created UTS during this moment of great emphasis on women’s empowerment, and not surprisingly, has tapped into an incredible cadre of sisters, mothers, daughters, aunts, grandmothers, friends, artists, influencers, healers, entrepreneurs, performers, advocates, and activists, enthusiastic to share stories. Crossing racial and socio-economic barriers and blurring the lines of sexual orientation, these women include medical and tech professionals, best-selling authors, world-class athletes, fashion designers, feminists, and women in nearly every sector in between.
UTS sees this work as not only vital to its overall mission but an extension of its wish to unite women in a space that not only nourishes the soul but supports the infrastructure of a community in all the countries that its members call home. What makes our design unique is that every woman who interacts with the company provides their own content and UTS curates a magnificent tapestry celebrating women from around the world. So far we’ve interviewed 70 women representing 35 countries. Our platform gave women a space to be seen, heard, and celebrated no matter what part of the world they lived in, no matter what age they are and no matter their background Under the Sisterhood ignited voices from around the globe.
On International Women’s Day Under the Sisterhood launched its not-for-profit arm, SISTERGOOD, which was created to help change the world by empowering women and girls in developing nations to develop healthy practices of self-discovery, self-expression, and self-care. Sistergood is a non-profit organization that employs query-based facilitated learning to provide women with strategies, skills, and tools to strengthen their physical and mental well-being, encourage them to become actively engaged in their communities and empower them to become leaders. With the assistance of donations, Sistergood will expand its reach in developing nations (currently, we have "Sister Circles" in Pakistan, Haiti, and Costa Rica), and offer even more of these facilitated gatherings in which participants share aspirations and thoughts on what it means to be a woman today. These virtual meetings were initially created to allow women in the UTS space to discuss their “Superpowers” – and give their individualized perspectives on and around these questions, which are the basis of UTS’s ongoing call to action: What’s your story? What are your superpowers? How do you use your superpowers to help other women?
Having built a community of thousands of women via its own UTS assets, and engaging with millions of women through social media, the growing, resounding response from women in the Sister Circles has been both astonishing and satisfying, prompting UTS, (now via SISTERGOOD) to expand its reach in countries where women’s voices have less impact, where fewer female mentors are available and where fewer funds and resources are available to the general public.
